Here's the Latest!

Updated 8/7/10

We're back in the church!

The remodeling of the church is nearly complete.  We celebrated Mass in church Wednesday for the first time.  The new colors are warm, the lighting is softer and, in my opinion, it just needs a fireplace.  ;-).

As of this writing, the sacristy is still under construction with many cupboards still to be replaced.  All Eucharistic and Lectoring needs have been moved back in but are not in their permanent places.  Allow for extra time before Mass so you can find everything.  Once again, please don't panic if something is missing; let one of us know what is needed.  For the time being, the tabernacle key can be found in the cabinet with the chalices.

Let's continue to keep some semblance of order until constuction is complete.  Please be patient and check this website for updates.  Remember to help keep the reverence.  Thank you for all your help and cooperation!

God bless,

Betty

Chris

Lenore

HELP NEEDED!

Once again we are losing a loyal EM/Lector from the 11:30 Mass.  Catherine Rivera is moving away and will join a parish closer to her new home.  Let's all wish her well and keep her and her family in our prayers.  God bless you, Catherine, and best of luck in your new home.  We will miss you!

Needless to say this leaves an even bigger gap in the 11:30 Mass roster.  (Check the current schedule for details.)  Fr. Kevin and Deacon Rick are doing their best to help fill the vacancies but I'm sure they could use our help.  Please, if you know someone who attends the 11:30 Mass on a regular or semi-regular basis and would make a great Extraordinary Minister, perhaps you could let one of us know.  They must be approved by Fr. Kevin and/or Fr. Mike and be practicing Catholics who believe in the true presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.  After all, they're going to be there anyway, right?

IMPORTANT REMINDER!

We again found wet/damp dishtowels (6 to be exact) mixed in with damp finger towels and the purificators in the "laundry basket".  PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS!  Sometimes they sit for a couple of days before Norma can get to them and they, and every item they come in contact with, get black mildew stains on them which she cannot get out.  Bleaching them is not an option because of the red crosses.

Also....PLEASE DO NOT use finger towels, purificators or dish towels to wipe up spills on the floor; use paper towels.  Remember that these linens are used on the altar of God and to clean the sacred vessels.

Reminders from Betty:

Please be prompt in going up to the altar at the Sign of Peace.  Offer the sign of peace to your family only.  1st Host should then take the lead  in going immediatly to the foot of the altar.  Remember to use the hand sanitizer next to the credence table.  1st Host should go to the tabernacle first and then cross over to use the sanitizer.

3rd Host and 4th Cup at all Masses: Remember to go to the back of the church to serve any special needs people after servicing those in the front pew.  This will ensure that Father will not have to wait for you to return to the altar after communion.  If you need clarification about this please call Betty.

Reminders from Chris:

Bring Your Gifts to the Ambo!  We serve as lectors because we answered a call to use the gifts God gives us to proclaim His Word to our parish family.

Proclamation begins with the announcements.  Be sure to review for content and timeliness and speak clearly and carefully.  Each announcement is important to one of our parish groups.  Plan for a noticable pause after the "quiet and minds/hearts", then proclaim the theme for our Eucharistic Celebration.

Please review this and other equally important reminders in the Notes section.

Also, it is most important to PRACTICE.  Our gifts are only as valuable to our parish family as we choose to make them thru prayer and practice.

Items discussed at the Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors Meeting!

General Reminders for everyone

•    If you cannot serve as assigned, please call and get a substitute from the list on the schedule. When you need a substitute, you can use the substitute list or you can call someone from the other schedule. If you try both of these lists and you can't get someone, notify the first Host person so that he/she will know that it is necessary to ask someone from the congregation. You may also use the new website and click under substitutes to find other names and phone numbers to contact for those willing to substitute at your Mass. If you have been asked to substitute, please check in with the group before Mass so that everyone will know that a substitute from the congregation is not needed.

•   Please arrive 20 minutes before Mass in the Sacristy so that the first Host knows if there are any

vacancies. Ministers and Lectors pray together 10 minutes before Mass, led by 1st Host.

•    Father Mike and Father Kevin appreciate appropriate dress for serving the body and blood of Christ and

sharing the word of God. (Please no jeans, shorts, tank tops, short skirts, tops that are too low or

too short or flip flops. If you are attending other events after church please bring a change of clothes.)

Special Reminders for Lectors

Announcements:

Review the announcements so that they can be read clearly and thoughtfully. Skip any announcements that do not pertain to your Mass, such as "coffee and donuts after all the morning Masses" at the 5:30 Mass on Sunday.  Pause after the announcements, and set the tone for the beginning of Mass with reverence as the Sunday, presider and Prologue are proclaimed.

Prayers of the Faithful:

Please review the names of the sick and deceased prior to Mass. If you are uncertain of pronunciation, please check with the priest. Keep in mind that we are presenting the names of our own "family" members for prayer.  When reading the Mass intention, a cross in front of the name is for deceased parishioners - "For the repose of the soul of...." If there is no cross - "For the intention of..."  After the final intention has been said, remain at the ambo until the priest has finished the prayer.

Other Lector Reminders:

If you are the 2" lector, please remember to close the book and put it on the shelf. The 1st lector should wait until the Creed is finished before walking to the ambo. When walking from your pew to the altar, do not rush, and refrain from swinging your arms.

The Pause:

The pause between the end of the reading and "The Word of the Lord" should be shorter - 3 to 5 seconds.

Special Circumstances:

When serving with Msgr. Creighton, remember to place the Book of the Gospels on the altar, on the left side, saving Msgr. the discomfort of walking to the stand.

Special Reminders for Eucharistic Ministers

NEW PROCEDURES:

During Mass the First Host will go directly to the Tabernacle, take the consecrated Host to the Altar, then sanitize hands.  The other Eucharistic Ministers will go directly to the sanitizer.  When sanitizing your hands, stay away from the Altar until you have rubbed the sanitizer into your hands, (do not wipe your hands on your clothes) then stand by the Altar. Remember to stand close to the Altar Servers and remain on the chalice side of the Altar if you are serving the cup and on the Tabernacle side if you are serving the Host.  Exception is the 4th cup person who stands with those serving the Host, closest to the congregation so that he or she can serve the cup to the other ministers on that side.

Remember to stand very close to the Altar when Monsignor Creighton is celebrating the Mass.

It is very important that the Eucharistic ministers go quickly to the front to bow after sharing the sign of peace with their family.  If you are First Host go up quickly so the others will also come

First Host: Please be sure to place enough Hosts in the Ciboria and don't forget the large Priest's Host.  Do not put broken hosts in the ciboria.  Watch to make sure people consume the Host.  When serving, the first Host position needs to use the large Ciborium so that he/she can give the Priest more Hosts, if necessary.  If you notice that there are many more people to serve and you do not have enough Hosts in your Ciborium, start breaking the Hosts in half early, so that you will have enough to serve everyone.

If you notice that the Ministers in the cry chapel have many more to serve and you are almost done, please help them finish.

If a Host is dropped, pick it up and hold it under the ciborium. When you return with your ciborium to the Altar consume it or take it to the special sink in the Sacristy and wash it down the sink with some water.  If the precious blood is spilled, place your purificator over the spill and get a new one from the Altar, then continue serving.   At the end of Mass get a wet cloth and mop up the spill and squeeze it out into the special sink in the Sacristy.

When serving the Host, please only say " The body of Christ" with a pleasant expression on your face.  Look into the eyes of the person you are serving.  If someone is taking the host on the tongue try not to touch the tongue with your finger.  When serving the cup, say " the blood of Christ". Make sure the person has a good hold on the chalice before you let go.

At all Masses: If you are 3rd Host and 4th Cup, please serve the special needs people in the front row, then go immediately down the aisle near the outside door, to the back of the church to serve any special needs people in the back pews.  An usher should be back there to direct you to them.  Then return to your normal position to serve.  This helps everyone to be finished at the same time so that the Priest doesn't have to wait for us.

When babies, young children or adults come up for a blessing, raise your hand above their head and say "Blessings of Christ". (Do not touch their heads, or shoulder or back)

•   We need to be team players. Watch out for each other and if someone has a "senior moment" cover for them. We need to be kind and loving.  If someone forgets to do something and you notice; quietly do it for him or her.  If the cry chapel people aren't finished and everyone else in the church is almost finished, go in to help them.  Also please be kind to the Altar Servers.  If there is any kind of a continuing problem let Betty know so that we can work on the problem in a positive and loving manner.

•   The person who is the First Host needs to get substitutes from the congregation if needed and prepare the side Credence Table with proper placement of items. Chart and pictures are in the Sacristy. Before you go down to sit in the pew, check the Credence Table one more time. If there are extra ministers for the cry chapel, the second Host and cup need to stay in the church and let the extra ministers serve the cry chapel. At the end, help in the cry room if needed.

•   The First Host is responsible for setting up the side credence table and the First Cup is responsible for taking the wine decanter and covered ciborium to the back of the church before Mass.

•   First Host and First Cup are responsible for cleanup after Mass after the music is completed.  During daily Mass remember to help clean up..
